2019 JISEA Annual Report Captures Highlights of a Transformative Year
May 15, 2019 — Meaningful transformation is transpiring across the power and wider energy sector worldwide. The shale gas revolution continues to shift the U.S. power industry, as well as the global economy. The demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, and electric generation continues to get less expensive, more efficient, and cleaner. And in its ninth year, the Joint Institute for Energy Analysis (JISEA) is continuing to fuel and inform this energy evolution.
The JISEA 2019 Annual Report, Transform: Catalyzing the Transition to a 21st Century Energy Economy, captures some of the outcomes of the initiative’s innovative transdisciplinary research. JISEA’s cutting-edge analysis is helping to shape the concept of future clean energy generation, as well as provide an understanding of the associated costs of adoption.
In 2018, JISEA research and analysis guided industry, the financial sector, and the government in strategic areas such as:
- Energy Systems Integration and Transformation — Through the operation of the 21st Century Power Partnership (21CPP), JISEA worked with Brazil, Mexico, and China to conduct grid integration studies to demonstrate how electricity systems can incorporate greater levels of renewable energy.
- Energy @ the Nexus of Sustainability — JISEA is uncovering win-win-win solutions for addressing sustainability concerns at the food, water, and energy nexus. A recent study on the potential for co-located agricultural and solar photovoltaic (PV) infrastructure in India built upon JISEA's work.
- Circular Supply Chains — A Clean Energy Manufacturing Analysis Center (CEMAC) assessment looked at how to best transition to lower global warming potential refrigerants.
From building country-level capacity for energy systems integration to providing industry with the knowledge they need to shift to a clean, circular economy, 2018 was a productive year for JISEA. We continue to strive to produce the research and analysis that powers the evolution of the global energy economy.
