American-Made Program

The American-Made Program connects the nation's entrepreneurs and innovators to national labs and the private sector. American-Made fast tracks ideas, solutions, and technologies to help ease the impacts of climate change and contribute to a sustainable, net-zero economy. In addition, the learnings derived from prize winners and applicants inform the clean energy sector of emerging and existing challenges, identify novel solutions, and feed technology research portfolios with on-the-ground information about needs and opportunities. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has been a key DOE partner in this program’s development and implementation.

Prizes

Through more than 60 prizes, American-Made supports innovation in clean energy by awarding winners cash prizes and other incentives to further their research and set them on the path to success. Prizes represent low-risk entry points for entrepreneurs and innovators, who bring ideas, diverse skills, and experience from other industries to help advance clean energy technologies and markets. Prize challenges can be designed to address any clean energy challenge, with existing prizes supporting new technological innovations, community and workforce development, clean energy manufacturing, and more.

American-Made Network

The American-Made Network includes 400+ organizations, including DOE and its 17 national labs, along with professionals from accelerators, incubators, universities, facilities, and industry. Network members help prize competitors create game-changing technologies, develop a proof of concept, test and validate prototypes, advance solutions toward commercialized products, and build businesses.

Voucher Program

Through American-Made's VELOCITI voucher program, competitors are given the opportunity to access tools and expertise at DOE's 17 national laboratories and approved organizations and facilities to develop, test, and validate their clean energy solutions. These vouchers foster the growth of competitors' projects while also helping to develop new capabilities at the laboratories, including methods for testing and measuring the innovative technologies developed by the competitors.
